British actress relaxes at the Fortina Spa Hotel and Resort

28 September 2004   |   Written by Matthew Xuereb

British actress Sophia Myles is presently in Malta relaxing at the Fortina Spa Hotel and Resort, taking a break from her busy schedule of films, television and theatre productions. Ms Myles, 24, was planning a break and was invited by the Fortina management to spend a relaxing holiday in Malta. It is the first time she has been to Malta. She said the rooms at the Fortina Resort fascinated her: “I have my own jacuzzi and my own private swimming pool. It is very relaxing here and this is exactly what I needed,” she said enthusiastically.

She said that even though the weather is not exactly what she expected, because Malta is usually associated with the sun and sea, she does not mind the rainy weather.

Blonde with blue eyes, Ms Myles is young but quite experienced considering the number of films, television and theatre productions in which she has take part since she began her acting career at the age of 16. Her latest film is Art School Confidential, directed by Terry Zwigoff, in which she played the part of Audrey. Her film debut was in Mansfield Park, directed by Patricia Rozema.

In answer to a question, Ms Myles said that she had had no particular ambition to become an actress, but after she tried acting for the first time, she was told that she had a lot of potential, and this was when she embarked on her career. She said comedy is the genre she prefers, because “laughing is a guarantee”;.

Asked about her future plans, Ms Myles said she would like to set up her own production company, at the same time continuing her career as an actress.
