Santa Sophia!!!

Sophia has sent a Christmas message with a picture to the site:

To my lovely fans at sophiamyles.org,

Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and I hope that 2010 brings us more joy than we can possibly imagine.

Love, peace, rock and roll.
Sophia xxx

Awww, thank you! And we wish you the same! Sophia also sent some great exclusive pictures from the set of ‘Outlander‘. Thank you so much! It’s funny to think that these were taken over 3 years ago.

6th Anniversary: New Layout

How time flies! It seems like yesterday that Absolutely Sophia Myles had been celebrating being online for half a decade and already another year’s passed. For the occasion I finished coding a new layout for the website.

A while ago members of the messageboard had the opportunity to create a layout for the site. In the end only one was submitted – but what a gorgeous layout this is! Luna designed the graphics – many thanks! – which in turn highly influenced my coding. I’ve been going over everything so I think it should all work – but please let me know if you encounter any problems.

What else is new? In the sidebar I replaced the random quotes by Sophia Myles with new orginal ones. Enjoy!

It was also time to change the poll question. Since January 2, 2009, 766 of the site’s visitors have answered the question ‘What’s your favourite character?‘. The result was overwhelmingly clear: 515 people (or 67%) chose Beth Turner from ‘Moonlight‘. The other top choices were Isolde (‘Tristan & Isolde‘) with 18% and Reinette (‘Doctor Who‘) with 9%. But only 1% or 10 people prefer the character of Kate Breck in ‘Hallam Foe‘ to all others. See all results here. As of now there’s a new poll open for voting in the sidebar: What kind of movie would you like to see Sophia in next?

Sophia Myles NOT on Twitter
Posted in: Fans, General

With Twitter having become the fashionable thing these days it’s of course natural that fans should be wondering whether or not Sophia Myles does have her own account – especially in view of there being one in her name. However, we’ve received official information last week that any such accounts are fake and that Sophia Myles is NOT on Twitter.

However ‘Absolutely Sophia Myles‘ can be found on Twitter as absolutely_soph. Feel free to follow us to stay informed about all things Sophia!

Sophia Myles: Best of 2008
Posted in: General

Another year is coming to an end. Already the podcast from last weekend was kind of a look back on the past 12 months and here’s now the traditional text & picture review of 2008.

Sophia Myles began the year relaxing and enjoying the sunshine in LA – during the writers’ strike induced break from filming Moonlight. Promoting the airing of episode 12 – which acted as a finale before the hiatus – Sophia gave an interview to a number of online journalists and bloggers during her break. And I’m sure we were all happy beyond words when she recorded her answers to the exclusive site Fan Q&A. That was definitely the highlight on sophiamyles.org! In February it was announced that the show would return with 4 brand new episodes in April and we were very happy to receive Sophia’s message to Moonlight Fans. We were treated to a number of more interviews when the show returned in April. Of course we mustn’t forget Sophia’s first ever US talk show appearance on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on April 30. Unfortunately, CBS decided to cancel Moonlight in May and despite tremendous efforts by fans the show remains “kind of dead, completely dead“. Despite all of that Sophia’s lead role in a series on a major US TV network brought her some much deserved attention and won her new fans as well as a nomination at the SyFy Genre Awards. In August, Sophia Myles attended the Outlander world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. I was very happy to be able to attend the screening and see Sophia as a Viking princess warrior. To promote the release of Mister Foe in the US we were again treated to a number of new interviews and Sophia got invited to re-appear on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on September 8 – only 3 months after her previous appearance! Messageboard member Kevin successfully delivered flowers to her at the taping (picture). Unfortunately, Sophia Myles has not started work on a new project since the demise of Moonlight. A looming actors’ strike as well as the current financial crisis mean less projects get the green light – and it has been a tough year for many actors who are on the lookout for new jobs. Sophia Myles is back home in England now and I’m already looking forward to what 2009 will bring for her career! Word is out that fans from North America will get to see Outlander on the big screen in January, while a UK release date has been set for February. Finally, fans will be allowed to see Sophia in a film that she finished shooting 2 years ago!

Sophia Myles: Best of 2008

Compiled by the Absolutely Sophia Myles staff. Please feel free to post your own choices here or at the messageboard.

Best news:
I was more than just a little excited when I heard Sophia Myles would be travelling to my country for the premiere of Outlander!

Worst news:
No doubts here! Moonlight getting cancelled definitely was the worst.

Favourite magazine picture/photo shoot:

We didn’t get any new ones this year. However, additional pictures from the 2007 Elle shoot got either published in a magazine or surfaced online this year. This has to be my most favourite Sophia shoot ever!

Anna Friel mentions Sophia
Posted in: General

You may remember that in a number of interviews Sophia Myles has stated that she’s good friends with fellow Brits Anna Friel and Lena Headey, who’re also staying in LA. Now the star of Pushing Daisies, Anna Friel, mentioned Sophia too. From a new interview with MediaBlvd Magazine:

I’m friends with Ben Chaplin and Sophia Myles, who was on Moonlight, and Lena Headey is on Terminator. Me, Lena and Sophia used to always go for the same jobs in England, and we would cross each other at auditions. Here, we were all filming on the same lot and we became really lovely friends.

Which reminds me I really have to catch up on the new season of Ned and Chuck.

Alex about Sophia
Posted in: General

In a recent interview with MediaBlvd Magazine ‘Moonlight‘ lead Alex O’Loughlin also gave an elaborate answer on his working relationship with Sophia Myles and their on screen chemistry (Read full interview):

Sophia and I spend a lot of time together and we’re great mates. She’s really fantastic to work with. I’m Australian and she’s British, and we have similar sensibilities and a similar sense of humor. We grew up with the same TV. We have a lot in common. She’s easy to get along with, which makes a big difference, when you’ve got to spend 18 hours a day with somebody. But, as far as our relationship goes, in comparison to Mick and Beth, it’s very different. There is no tension between Sophia and I. We’re colleagues. We’re not lovers. We have our separate lives. People talk about on screen chemistry. We work together, and those two characters have this really fantastic chemistry. I see it, when I watch the show back, but it’s not tangible in real life. When you put it on film, it’s there.

Sexiest Sci-Fi Guy
Posted in: General

Moonlight‘ star Alex O’Loughlin has been named Sexiest Sci-Fi Guy by TV Guide. In their Sexiest Stars issue (May 1) Sophia Myles was quoted:

“I’m immune to Alex’s hotness. I see more of him than of any boyfriend I’ve ever had. I’m very privileged because of that, but since I see him so much, I’ve overdosed on his hotness. It’s just the norm. But other people become weak in the knees around him. They start blushing. They drool. He has that Johnny Depp thing, a special sparkle that’s just magic. How do you define it? The young girls love him, the older ladies love him, and the gay guys love him. He’s really good at expressive movement and loves musical theater. He’s also up there with the greatest comedians I’ve ever known. I go home with stomach pains from laughing so hard. It’s constant. He’s kind of crude. English and Australians have a great connection when it comes to humor, and we can be outrageous. You couldn’t put some of it in print. Americans don’t know what to do with us, but I like that.”
