Congratulations! ‘Moonlight’ has won its first award: The cool vampire series is now officially this year’s “Favorite New TV Drama”. Over 10 million votes were cast and ‘Moonlight’ won at the 34th Annual People’s Choice Awards. The 2 other finalists in this category were ‘Private Practice’ and ‘Gossip Girl’.

Due to the current writers’ strike there was no proper awards ceremony - however the winners pre-recorded acceptance speeches as well as answered some questions from fans. Head over to Moonlight Detective to watch Alex O’Loughlin’s cool thank you speech - recorded apparently at a beach down-under.

Tonight the awards ceremony for the Bafta Scotland Awards took place at the City Halls in Glasgow’s Merchant City. As reported before Sophia Myles won the Best Actress award for her outstanding performance in ‘Hallam Foe’! Warmest congratulations to her again!

Actor Alastair Mackenzie - who also happens to be the brother of ‘Hallam Foe’ director David Mackenzie - presented the award and since Sophia Myles couldn’t attend due to working in LA for ‘Moonlight’ at the moment the film’s casting directors Kahleen Crawford and Des Hamilton - who were delighted for her - collected the award for her. They also read Sophia’s thank you note:

“I am filled with gratitude having won the Scottish Bafta for Best Actress. Making ‘Hallam Foe’ was a beautiful experience for all of us involved. Without Jamie Bell by my side and David Mackenzie behind the camera I would not be winning this. My huge thanks to both those guys! This is the first award I have won for acting. I’m horrified that because I’m currently working on an American series called ‘Moonlight’ in Los Angeles I am unable to be with you all tonight to thank you in person. Bafta Scotland rocks! Have a great night! Love, Sophia.”
