A new interview
Posted in: Press Updates

Last week the California Chronicle re-published an interview with Sophia from the Belfast Telegraph. While it’s a short one contrary to the other recent articles it’s a full interview and she talks about ‘Outlander‘, ‘Moonlight‘ (which is currently airing on Virgin1 in the UK on Monday nights), ‘Thunderbirds‘, ‘Doctor Who‘ as well as the persistent rumour about ‘Buddha’s Little Finger‘ (it’s definitely not happening). Enjoy the read!

5 minutes with… Sophia Myles, Belfast Telegraph & Tiscali.co.uk, August 22

[edit:] I replaced the article with another re-publication by Tiscali.co.uk wich has the additional sentence “I know it’s still acting but it’s like the difference between, say, painting in watercolour and painting in oils” in Sophia’s answer to the question about stage work.

WHAT’S BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE ROLE OVER THE YEARS? I really would struggle to pick one role because each film is like a different adventure. Each film-making experience is unique in its own way.

Elle Magazine – Diet Diary

The new February issue of Elle (UK) magazine with Kate Winslet on the cover has an article about Sophia Myles. It’s called Diet Diary and is basically about Sophia’s weekly food intake with a nutritionist’s opinion about it. Many thanks to my friend Riikka for the heads up as well as for scanning the magazine. View the scan. And here’s the transcript from the press archive.

Vampire & Slayers talk to Sophia

Thanks Ed Gross for the heads up to an audio clip of an interview he conducted with Sophia Myles back when “Moonlight” was getting ready to go back into production following the strike of the Writer’s Guild of America. I’m guessing the interview took place at the end of February 2008. To listen to it visit his website Vampire & Slayer and join their community (for free). Direct link to the interview.

I received an email today from NLStore informing me – as far I was able to gather from the Dutch email – that they shipped out my copy of the “The Prince and the Pauper” DVD today and that I should receive it in my mail within a week or so. Finally! It’s already been almost a month since I placed the order.

Chud.com talks to Sophia & Jamie

Chud.com was also attending the “Mister Foe” press junket a couple of weeks ago. They published their transcript of the interview with Sophia Myles and Jamie Bell and I think it’s very nice to see the interaction between the two. Apart from the movie (obviously) they talk about who’s more damaged, Kate or Hallam, who they’d like to work with in the future and James Franco being funny (Sophia already knew that of course).

Myles: I think as you get older (I don’t know if you’ve found this.) but within the industries, when you start off acting, it’s kind of rather selfish motives; you are the kid who just wants to get paid to throw on the costumes and pretend to be someone else. The more experience that you have and the more films that you make, you start to realize that as a storyteller, it’s not just about you and the film’s experience for yourself. It becomes about your audience. And you realize, “Wow, I actually have the power here to make a piece… As opposed to the movies that are out there right now that just provide purely escapism for an hour and a half while you go and eat popcorn and forget about your own life…

Bell: Rising fuel prices, rising fuel prices I need some escapism… [All Laugh]

Myles: Films like this which deal with such archetypal themes of self-discovery, the search for love, and the fear of death, that can really actually affect the audience and take the viewer to somewhere deeper within themselves. That’s what it becomes about.

New York Magazine talks to Sophia

This new interview with Sophia Myles comes from New York Magazine’s culture and entertainment blog Vulture. Out of all the recent interviews this seems like the most relaxed. Be sure to read Sophia’s answers to questions about Mister Foe, Moonlight and Outlander.

Jamie, as far as I’m concerned, is a national treasure. I would say he’s right up there at the top of my favorite co-stars, because in any scene between him and I, he’s so good and moving that all I had to do was just react to whatever he was doing. He’s made this seamless transition from child star to adult star without any of the rehab and all the nonsense.

(about the status of Outlander) It’s taking a while to come out. As always, there’s drama, I think, behind the scenes. I’m not entirely sure. No one tells me because I’m just the actress. It will come out, and it’s not true that it’s going straight to DVD….

Parade talks to Sophia

Another new interview. This time around from Parade Magazine. Reading the title “Sophia Myles On Her First On-Screen Kiss” made me expect little but there are some nice quotes in there about enjoying the single life, growing up, living in LA and playing a Viking princess.

I think when I was younger I was kind of looking for somebody to come along to complete me. And I’ve realized now that I have to basically be complete — I have to complete myself. And then the right thing will come. I’m enjoying the single life. I’m enjoying taking this time for myself because I think it’s important.

My philosophy exactly! Read the full interview.

According to Videota the US DVD for Mister Foe will come out November 11, 2008.
