I am absolutely delighted to announce that Sophia Myles will be one of the actors taking part in The 24 Hour Plays Celebrity Gala!

My agent sent me an email asking if I was interested in taking part in the 24 Hour Plays Gala at The Old Vic Theatre. I almost wet my pants in fear just reading the email. I am not a stage actress as you all know… but what I do know is this… facing FEAR is the gateway to the next dimension.

I have said yes. I can’t believe I have said yes. Sky diving naked almost seems less scary!  So please wish me luck and if I die as the curtain comes up you are all invited to my funeral.

WHAT IS IT?

Now in its eighth year The 24 Hour Plays Celebrity Gala is one of the most exciting and glamorous evenings in London’s theatre calendar. A host of acclaimed actors, directors and writers join forces to write, rehearse and perform six short plays in just 24 hours. It’s the ultimate theatrical challenge, culminating in a unique evening played out on one of the world’s most celebrated stages – The Old Vic – on Sunday 13 November 2011.

Past participants have included Jenny Agutter, Gael García Bernal, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Jim Broadbent, Saffron Burrows, John Cleese, Richard Curtis, Joseph Fiennes, Stephen Fry, Josh Hartnett, Tom Hollander, Lesley Manville, James Nesbitt, Graham Norton, Rosamund Pike, Rufus Sewell, Brooke Shields, Kevin Spacey, Catherine Tate, Dominic West, Richard Wilson and Vince Vaughn.

Sophia is set to star in a short film by Jacob Proctor entitled A Sunny Morning. Sophia has been cast as Grace alongside Charlie Cox who will play her husband Adam. Filming is due to start next week.

Grace is on the brink of making a decision that could change the rest of her life after a heated argument with her husband Adam. She’s feeling trapped and alone, jealous of her successful friend and bitter about the choices she made. But is she really willing to give up the life she knows for the chance to recapture her dream?

The show centers on a private investigator (Alex O’Laughlin) who is a vampire and struggles with the repercussions of immortality, vampire adversaries and his love for a mortal – Beth Turner, a beautiful, ambitious Internet investigative reporter who is always on the hunt for the big story. In the pilot presentation the role was played by Shannon Lucio.

Sophia Myles has landed a new role as Freya in Harvey Weinstein’s upcoming movie ‘Outlander’. Howard McCain is directing his own script that he co-wrote with Dirk Blackman. The story is set in 709 AD.

Plot: A man from another galaxy crash-lands on Earth during the time of the Vikings. By accident, he brings with him an alien predator that he must destroy with the help of a Viking tribe.

The film also stars Jim Caviezel and Jack Huston (Anjelica’s nephew). Shooting will begin October 16th in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and last 11 weeks (with a break over Christmas). Sophia’s character is a warrior.

Bowie heads Extras’ star line-up

David Bowie, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and actor Orlando Bloom are among the stars set to appear in the second series of Ricky Gervais’ Extras.

Sir Ian McKellen, Daniel Radcliffe and Germaine Greer have also landed cameo roles in the BBC Two show.

The series is based around extra Andy Millman, played by Gervais, an actor desperate to break into the big time.

Kate Winslet was among the guest stars in the first series, written by Gervais and comedy partner Stephen Merchant.

Diana Rigg, Moira Stuart, Richard Briers, Ronnie Corbett and Stephen Fry are also included in the line-up for the sitcom’s second series, which is due to air later this year.

A BBC spokeswoman said filming began earlier this week and plotlines had not yet been confirmed.

The first series picked up two prizes at the prestigious Rose d’Or TV awards in April, winning best sitcom and best sitcom actress for Ashley Jensen, who plays Gervais’ sidekick Maggie.

But the show missed out on two Bafta awards, losing out to Armando Iannucci’s political satire, The Thick Of It.

Synopsis:
Directed by Marleen Gorris, this is based on the remarkable true story of James Miranda Barry. In the early years of the 19th Century Barry graduated from Edinburgh University Medical School aged 21. Barry was appointed army surgeon to the Cape Colony where she performed the first successful Caesarian operation and rose through the ranks to eventually become Surgeon General of the British Army. It was only when the undertaker was laying out the body of the eminent physician that a startling discovery was made – Dr James Barry was in fact a woman.

The film is a darkly funny, bittersweet coming of age story about Hallam Foe, a 17 year old misfit who likes to watch the world from a tree house in the grounds of his father’s expansive pile in the Scottish Borders. Hallam is almost over the sudden death of his mother when he begins to suspect that his beautiful step mother may have had a hand in her death, and it doesn’t help that Hallam fancies her rotten. After a confrontation with his step mum, Hallam escapes to the city of Edinburgh. Out of money and out of friends, he finds his tree top skills well suited to the rooftops of the city, where he lives ferally, attempting to avoid the perils of the streets below – including an obsession with a gorgeous girl who happens to look just like his mother…..
