Brean Beach was transformed into a movie set on Monday morning (August 21st) when filming of a major new BBC film got underway.
To the sound of ‘lights, camera, action’, film crews from Granada TV were shooting a new version of Dracula, to be broadcast on BBC One this Christmas.
Marc Warren (Doctor Who) heads the cast of the adaptation of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel. Starring alongside him is a line-up of some of Britain’s brightest young acting talent, including Dan Stevens (Line of Beauty), Sophia Myles (Thunderbirds) and Tom Burke (State of Play).

A spokesman for Granada TV told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The rugged, stark background of Brean Down makes an ideal backdrop. It appears a mystical place and is well suited to Dracula.”
Several other West Country beauty spots are also featured in the film, including Chavenage House near Tetbury, Eastnor Castle in Ledbury and Tyntesfield in Wraxall near Bristol. Woodchester Mansion in Stonehouse will also make an appearance as Castle Dracula.
It is not the first time that Brean, near Burnham-On-Sea, has been used for filming big movies. In June, Brean was used to film ‘The Golden Age’ starring Cate Blanchett.
