Upcoming Talk Show appearance

And one more update for today. Mark your diaries! To promote the US release of ‘Mister Foe‘ Sophia Myles is scheduled to appear (for the second time this year) on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. The date is Monday, September 8, 2008 at 12.35 AM ET/PT (to avoid confusion: this would be during the night Monday/Tuesday).

Please be sure to tune in – and since I myself won’t be able to watch or record this I’d be more than happy if someone could send in a clip for the site afterwards!

61st Film Festival Locarno

Even though the film has already been released in Latvian theatres ‘Outlander‘ will have a world premiere at the 61st Film Festival Locarno in Switzerland. It will be screened on the Piazza Grande on August 15 at 9.30 pm. And apparently Sophia Myles herself is going to be there. How amazing is that?! I will do my very best to attend and will keep you all informed. Stay tuned!

[edit:] And isn’t that new still gorgeous?

Status of ‘Heaven and Earth’

You may remember how over 2 years ago we wrote about Sophia’s attachment to ‘Heaven and Earth’ – a film about the true story of the first female doctor. Unfortunately, financing for the promising project, which would have featured Sophia in a lead role, could not be secured at the time. Back in May Variety had news about the project:

Natasha McElhone and James Purefoy will star in historical drama “Heaven & Earth” for Focus Films. Marleen Gorris will direct the $15 million film, written by Malcolm Kohll and Marsha Levin. David Pupkewitz and Kohll produce.

Story revolves around Britain’s first female doctor, James Miranda Barry (McElhone), who was forced to disguise herself as a man in order to practice medicine. Pic will tell the story of the early 19th century love affair between Barry and the governor of Cape Town, Lord Charles Somerset (Purefoy).

Shooting begins Dec. 10 in the U.K. and will move to Cape Town, South Africa, for six weeks sometime in January.

Much as I would have liked to see Sophia Myles play James Miranda Barry the casting choice of James Purefoy (Sophia’s co-star in Mansfield Park and The Prince and the Pauper) is brilliant.

Sophia garners nomination at The SyFy Genre Awards

It was announced yesterday that Sophia Myles got nominated in the ‘Best Actress / Television‘ category at this year’s SyFy Genre Awards. Fellow nominees include the following acting talents: Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who), Anna Friel (Pushing Daisies), Mary McDonnell (Battlestar Galactica) and Eve Myles (Torchwood). Sophia’s nomination marks the only nomination for ‘Moonlight‘.

While The SyFy Genre Awards cannot be considered proper industry awards they are major. So, congratulation Sophia! The SyFy Genre Awards, in existence since 1999 and considered one of the first major virtual entertainment awards, is a product of the science fiction and fantasy Web site SyFy Portal. The SyFy Genre Awards provide an opportunity for fans to honor the best of science fiction television, movies, books, comic books, and web productions for the year.

That’s right. It’s the fans who get to vote for the winners!

Voting begins June 25 right here at SyFy Portal. Readers can vote once per day for 30 days between June 25 and July 25, and winners will be announced during SyFy Portal’s 10th anniversary celebration around Aug. 13.
