I finally found the time to encode the promised clips of the scenes featuring Sophia Myles in the 1996 BBC 6 part mini series “The Prince and the Pauper“. Thanks be whoever decided to release “The Prince and the Pauper” on DVD in The Netherlands. Yesterday my much awaited copy arrived and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the 3 hour long adaptation of Mark Twain’s novel about Prince Edward and a beggar boy looking exactly the same and switching places. Need I say that my eyes were glued to the screen whenever Sophia Myles appeared as Lady Jane? Her small but noteworthy supporting role in this 6 part mini series was her professional acting debut – she was just 16 at the time. She briefly appears in parts 1, 2, 3 and again in the final part 6. I’ve added screencaptures for your viewing pleasure. Clips to follow soon. Enjoy!

Your chance to watch Sophia’s acting debut

Every now and then I like to check the upcoming TV schedule for Sophia Myles over at IMDb. Imagine my surprise when I saw ‘The Prince and the Pauper‘ listed. Up till now I have never managed to see this 1996 BBC mini series that is also Sophia’s acting debut. So, UK residents mark this in your diaries:

August 29th: ‘The Prince and the Pauper‘ airs on TMC at 13.00 and on TMC 2 at 19.00.

One of the comments in the film’s IMDb boards sent me on a 3 hour search. But finally I found what I was looking for! Apparently, the Mark Twain adaptation with Sophia Myles as Lady Jane Grey in a supporting role was released on a Region 2 DVD in the Netherlands on April 11, 2008! Sophia Myles to appear in ‘Doctor Who’

Sophia Myles has accepted a new role: She’s going to play Madame Du Pompadour in an episode of the famous BBC TV-Series ‘Doctor Who’ starring Billie Piper and David Tennant. Euros Lyn is directing, rehearsals are currently taking place and shooting will soon start.

There is a very informative fansite about the series: Gallifrey. And it says there that the tentative start date for the airing of Series 2 is March 2006. I believe the episode Sophia Myles will be in is ‘4: The Girl in the Fireplace’ – this one is set in 18th century France, the time and place Madame du Pompadour lived.
